The
Truth
Understanding the overall health and well-being of our
children is the ultimate goal of the 2002 Community Growth
Chart. It's a statistical measurement -- a benchmark --
of where we are and where we're headed as a community.
We need to know if we really live up to our reputation
as a great place for children and families. And if not,
where we are lacking? And what can each of us do to improve
it?
The Seven Questions
Being able to answer "yes" to each of these questions
indicates we're giving our kids the ability and foundation
to succeed. Click each question to find out how we measure
up.
1.) Are all babies born healthy?
2.) Are all kids healthy and
well?
3.) Are all kids living in
a safe and stable home?
4.) Are all kids living in
a safe and supportive community?
5.) Are all kids ready for
school?
6.) Are all kids succeeding
in school?
7.) Are all kids preparing
for adulthood?
What You Can Do
We know one thing -- doing nothing will result in nothing.
So pick one of the seven questions you'd most like to
be able to answer "yes" to. Learn about its
indicators. Adopt it. Take action
that will change it for the better. |

“Number 1 Question: Is it good for the kids?” Is a leading child advocacy
movement in Des Moines, Iowa. We strive to provide quality information to our
parents, caregivers and community about the critical issues affecting the
wellbeing of our children. We encourage volunteerism on behalf of agencies
dedicated to improving the life of every child. We enable philanthropy by
encouraging donations to organizations committed to helping kids and their
families. We strive to see all babies born healthy. It is our goal too to keep
kids healthy and well. We think every child should be living in a safe and
stable home. We support those who strive to make our neighborhoods safe and
supportive for kids. We question whether kids are receiving the mentoring they
need to be ready for school and successful at learning. It’s our objective to
see that all of our youth are preparing to enter adulthood so that they may live
a happy and worthwhile life. Plus, successful kids mean a successful community
for all of us in Greater Des Moines.
